Dixie Pie

When I was in high school, I worked at a restaurant called Tippins and they sold really yummy pies. One of my favorites, was their Dixie Pie, which is just a pecan pie with mini chocolate chips. Its really rich and so yummy. I usually make this every Christmas and Thanksgiving, as my family and Carl's family loves me to bring this for dessert. I usually use more pecans and chocolate chips than the recipe calls for, so use a heaping cup of pecan halves, and a heaping 1/2 cup of chocolate chips.

Dixie Pie

3 beaten eggs
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup light corn syrup
1/4 cup melted butter
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 heaping cup of pecans (halves)
1/2 cup of mini chocolate chips
1 unbaked pie crust

Combine the first 5 ingredients and mix well, pour into the pie crust and bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.

I had a similar pie at a restaurant and it was delicious! Thanks for posting - I'll have to try this out soon!

Yeaaahhh!! I'm so glad you posted this! I make the same pie every year (because I loved it at Tippins), but I never use the same recipe twice. I'm using yours from now on!

You may not be aware of this but the Hen House Market in KS bought the Tippins pie recipes and now sell them there. Thanks for this recipe. Do you know the shepherd's pie recipe from Tippins?

Thanks

Diane

Actually, the dixie pie at Tippins used walnuts, not pecans. At least the ones I worked at in Kansas did.

I used to work at Tippin's during high school, as well, in St. Louis and have been searching for this recipe for a long time! Can't wait to make it!

I concur with Emily. When I worked at the Tippin's in Independence, Missouri, the PECAN pies were made with pecans; the DIXIE pies were made with walnuts and chocolate chips.

I don't think it will matter whether you use pecans or walnuts. It will be awesome either way. Maybe I will try both ways and see which goes over the best.

I like pecans better than walnuts but I'm pretty sure it had rum in it. I'm also pretty sure Black Bottom Cream did too. Anyway found this blog while looking for the old menu. I worked there too and can make a mean Tippins-ish Chicken Quiche and Cram of Broccoli Soup.

Yes, Hen House does have the Tippins pies, though they no longer make a Dixie pie with pecans. They use walnuts. Most definitely not the same. Nor do they offer the Thunder cheesecake. Too bad for real. The Dixie with pecans and the Thurder cheesecake/chocolate topping Thunder were incredible.
